05 / ENGINEERING & COMPLIANCE FAQs

Answers to critical industrial safety questions.

From PESO statutory approvals to sensor physics, mounting elevation, and DCS telemetry—clear technical guidance from our instrumentation team.

Statutory Compliance & PESO What statutory standards and PESO approvals are mandatory for gas detectors in Indian hazardous areas?

Under the Indian Factories Act (Second Schedule), DISH regulations, and OISD-179 standards, facilities handling flammable or toxic chemicals must install continuous gas and flame monitoring. All field instruments installed in Zone 1 or Zone 2 hazardous areas must hold valid statutory PESO (CCOE) and IS/IEC 60079 flameproof (Ex d) or intrinsic safety (Ex ia) certificates.

Sensor Physics & Reliability When should an industrial plant specify Non-Dispersive Infrared (NDIR) sensors over Catalytic Pellistors?

NDIR optical sensors are completely immune to chemical poisoning from silicones, lead, and sulfur compounds. They consume zero oxygen (ideal for inert storage tanks), require calibration only once every 12 months, and have an operating lifespan exceeding 5 years, making them preferred for refineries and chemical plants.

Installation Engineering What are the critical mounting elevation rules based on gas vapor density?

Detector elevation strictly follows vapor density relative to air (Air = 1.0). Heavy gases (LPG, H₂S, Chlorine, CO₂) sink and must be mounted 30 cm to 60 cm above floor level. Lighter-than-air gases (Methane, Hydrogen, Ammonia) rise and must be installed within 30 cm of the ceiling or directly above high-risk leak flanges.

DCS Telemetry & Interlocks How do Detection Technology instruments interface with plant DCS, SCADA, and ESD trip systems?

Our transmitters output standard linear 4-20mA analog loops (sink/source) and multi-drop digital Modbus RTU RS-485 to interface directly with major plant DCS and SCADA systems. Onboard SPDT relays allow direct local trip of sirens, exhaust blowers, and deluge valves.
